Suggestions for Parents

Parents can work with the school in many ways to support their child’s progress at Hillcrest. Here’s how:

Contact us

Contact your child’s teacher or administrator to clarify an issue or get information. Teachers, Support Staff and Administrators are all available by phone or by email.

Review the your child’s TDSB agenda after school

Grade 3 through 6 students receive a TDSB Agenda during the first week of school. Although teachers’ use of these agendas may differ slightly, all homework and important events will be written in the agenda each day. Review the agenda with your child each evening so that you are aware of his/her assignments.

Become Involved – participate in the Parent Council

Show your support for the school community by attending the Parent Council  meetings. This year’s School Council Chair is Lisa Brownstone. Council meetings are monthly and their dates are posted in the Hillcrest calendar.

Helping Your Child with Homework

Homework or home study is an opportunity for students to apply and consolidate learning and for families to be involved in their children’s education. Homework helps students:

  • review and apply what they’ve covered in class;
  • prepare for the next day’s lessons;
  • learn to use resources such as libraries, reference materials and internet sites to find information about a subject or access help;
  • to work independently and develop productive habits;
  • involve their family in their learning.
